I voted today! Perhaps that doesn’t seem significant to you, but for me, it was incredibly significant! This is the first time I was able to exercise my constitutional right since Ross Perot was running for President. Some of you may be wondering why?
Well, it was not for lack of desire! Unfortunately, incarceration doesn’t end when your prison sentence does. The collateral consequences seem to follow you forever! It took over 20 years for me to restore this privilege. Most people consider this a constitutional right, and many people don’t exercise it regularly. However, I now view this as a privilege that comes with great responsibility.
Responsibility to understand the issues, the candidates, what’s happening in your neighborhood, your state and your country. And the responsibility to take the actions necessary for your voice to be heard, register to vote, cast your ballot and encourage your friends and family to do the same.
I hope you view it the same!
